Risk Reporting
Risk Reporting in Tradervue - Gold Subscription
Tradervue Gold subscribers can switch the reporting type to "R" on all available reports. In Tradervue, "R" represents the initial risk you take on in a trade.
What is "R" in Tradervue?
"R" is defined as the amount of initial risk in a trade. For example, if you enter a trade with 200 shares and your stop is $0.10 away from your entry, your R value is $20. To enter this total risk value for a trade:
- View the trade in question.
- Click "Edit" next to Initial Risk.
- Enter your initial risk value (e.g., $20).

Setting a Default Risk Value:
If you consistently use the same total risk for every trade, you can set a default risk value:
- Go to Settings, located next to your username on the lower left side of the screen.
- Click the Trade Settings tab.
- Enter your default per-trade risk value.

This value will automatically apply to all trades imported after setting it.
Understanding Return Calculations:
When viewing a trade, you may notice a "Gross Return" value, such as 2.5R. This indicates that your profit and loss (P&L) for the trade is 2.5 times your initial risk.
Example:
- You enter a trade with 200 shares, a $0.10 stop, making R = $20.
- If you sell the position at $0.35 above your entry, your return is 3.5R.
Using R-based return calculations helps normalize your analysis, especially when varying position sizes or initial risks.
Risk Reporting in Reports Section:
When generating reports, selecting "R" instead of "$" will show all performance metrics in terms of R rather than absolute dollar amounts.

Normalization:
- If you use different risk values for different trades, R mode normalizes these differences.
Example:
- Trade 1: SPY with an initial risk of $20, gross P&L of $40 → Gross return = 2R.
- Trade 2: AAPL with an initial risk of $200, gross P&L of $300 → Gross return = 1.5R.
In $ mode, the total P&L is $340, and the average per-trade P&L is $170. In R mode, the total is 3.5R, with an average per-trade return of 1.75R.
Important: Only trades with an initial risk set will be included in R-mode reports.
