Importing Trades Without Execution Time

Some brokers and trading platforms export trade execution details but include only the date, not the exact time of each execution. Tradervue can import this data, but there are specific limitations to be aware of:

Which Brokers Are Affected?

Fidelity, Schwab, Questrade, and a few others do not export execution times for each trade. Additionally, the Generic Importer can be used to import trade data without execution times - see Generic Import Format for details.

What Do You Need to Know?

  • All trade executions will be imported with a default time of 12:00:00 Eastern Time.
  • Ensure that your trade data is sorted chronologically (from oldest to newest) before exporting. This sorting is crucial because Tradervue relies on date and time to accurately match and group executions into trades.
  • If your data is not correctly sorted, you may encounter issues where a long trade appears as a short trade or vice versa. While the overall trade P&L will be accurate, the side (long/short) may be incorrect. This issue can be corrected later—see "Can I Fix This?" below.

What Are the Limitations?

Without accurate execution times, certain reports and features may be impacted:

  • Detailed Reports Tab:

Days/Times Group: Distribution/Performance by Hour of Day

Price/Volume Group: Distribution/Performance by In-trade Price Range

  • Advanced Reports Tab:

Duration: For intraday trades

MFE/MAE Values: Maximum Favorable/Adverse Excursion values

Additionally, viewing individual trades will be affected:

  • Intraday Price Charts: Executions will be plotted at 12:00:00.
  • Running P&L Charts: May not accurately reflect intraday timeframes.
  • MFE and MAE Data: Will not correctly show price and P&L movement during the trade.

Can I Fix This?

Yes, you can add the real execution times after importing your data if they are available:

  1. Open the Individual Trade:
  • Navigate to the Trades section.
  • Select the trade you want to adjust.
  1. Scroll to the Executions Section:
  2. Edit Execution Times:
  • On the right side of the execution list, look for the menu below 'Action.'
  • Locate the pencil icon (✎) next to each execution.
  • Click the pencil icon to edit the execution details.
  1. Update the Execution Time:
  • In the pop-up window that appears, update the execution time to reflect its correct time.
  • Save your changes.

By updating the execution times, you can correct the reports and charts to better reflect your trading activity.
