Using Multiple Trading Accounts

Tradervue's account tags feature allows you to manage trades from multiple trading accounts more effectively. This feature helps keep trades organized and prevents unwanted merging of trades from different accounts or positions. Note that account tags are available only with Silver and Gold subscriptions.

Default Behavior Without Account Tags:

  1. Single Open Position Rule: By default, Tradervue merges trades into a single open position for each underlying symbol. If you import a new execution for a symbol and there is already an open trade for that symbol, Tradervue will apply the new execution to the existing trade. This might close the existing trade or keep it open, depending on the new execution.

    Example Situations:

    • Multiple Accounts: If you trade SPY in both a swing account and an intraday account, Tradervue will merge all SPY trades into one, which may not reflect your actual trading strategy.
    • Long-Term vs. Short-Term Positions: If you hold a long-term LEAP call in AAPL and also trade short-term AAPL options, Tradervue would merge all these trades into a single position without account tags.

Using Account Tags:

  1. Purpose of Account Tags: Account tags allow you to segregate trades from different accounts or positions within Tradervue. By using account tags, you ensure that trades from different accounts or strategies do not merge unintentionally.

    How to Use Account Tags:

    • Import Process: During the import process, select "Always require me to select a Account Tag" on the import page.
    • Tag Entry: Enter a specific tag for the account you are importing (e.g., "swing" for swing trading account).
    • Consistency: Always use the designated account tag for every import from the same account to maintain accurate records.

      Applying Account Tags:

    • During Import: Use the account tag field specifically for importing trades related to a particular account. You can also apply normal tags for additional categorization, but be aware that normal tags will not affect the import behavior related to merging trades.

How Account Tags Change Import Behavior:

  1. Without Account Tags:
    • Tradervue looks for existing open trades in the same symbol as the new execution and merges the new execution with these trades.

      With Account Tags:

    • Tradervue will only merge new executions with existing trades that have the same account tag. This allows you to maintain separate open positions for each account or strategy.

Example of Account Tag Behavior:

  • Tagging Trades: If you import trades with the account tag "account1," Tradervue will only merge these trades with existing trades that are also tagged "account1."
  • Separate Positions: This means you can have multiple open positions for the same symbol if they are tagged differently. For example, you can have separate long-term and short-term positions in AAPL if they are tagged "long-term" and "short-term" respectively.

Best Practices:

  • Consistency is Key: Always use the same account tag for each import related to a specific trading account or strategy to avoid confusion and ensure accurate tracking.
  • Filter and Report: Account tags enable you to filter and report trades separately by account, helping you analyze performance and manage positions more effectively.
